Here’s to a New Year of Goals!
Making My Resolutions
Step One: Acknowledge Where YOU Want to Improve
What I mean is that writing down your goals/ambitions and posting them adds another level of accountability. It’s a good way to track progress and actually follow through on them. Once it goes public you have a bigger support base of friends, family and readers to cheer you on.
It is very easy to give up, but this year I am determined to really work on me.
Last year I spent a majority of my time taking care of other people, and I wouldn’t change that for anything. But if I wasn’t working as an in home Caregiver after surgeries and hospital stays, then I was being an emotional support and a volunteer house ‘mom’ of sorts.
Losing my job in 2015 was a major blessing in disguise. I wouldn’t have been able to be the help that my family needed through our very tough year. I intentionally put myself lower on my list of priorities, but now I think it is time to change that. This year I am making a point to take care of myself mentally, physically, and emotionally. You name it, I’m working on it.
Step Two: Document your Goals
1. Truly Start my Career
Near the middle-ish of 2015, I let this long job search really get to me. I began to question if I really was any good at writing or creating things. I had no real confidence in myself.
Unemployment had me frustrated and upset. But in 2016 I am coming at this job search with renewed vigor. Though I am still developing my voice, I have definitely grown as a writer since graduation. I’m done questioning that fact. It’s time to cheer myself on and work hard to build my best career path.
I love writing and am ready to really share my talent.

2. Expand my Mind
Ok, so this one is still pretty general. Basically, I want to keep challenging my mind. After I graduated I had lost my excitement to learn. I think it faded into the background during the YOU NEED A JOB panic. Recently I have acknowledged that in order to feel fulfilled I need to keep learning. It took me some time to realize that it didn’t just end with school.
I have found my enthusiasm for learning again and I am beyond excited!
3. Get Healthy and Feel Good
I want to eat better and exercise more.
My first step is to find a fun way to work out so I don’t think of it as a chore. I’m positive this is the reason I never follow through with my standard ‘Exercise and Diet’ resolution. I like my body don’t get me wrong, but I want a few less pounds to carry around. I want to love what I see in the mirror EVERY time I look and not just when my eyeliner is on point. 😛
4. Create and Strengthen Meaningful Relationships
I really am done making an effort to keep friends around that don’t return that same amount or any effort at all. It is exhausting. This year I am going to really cultivate the relationships that mean the most to me.
Of course I won’t hide from society. I love meeting new people and opening my mind to their ideas, but I am not going to kill myself trying to hold onto friends who simply don’t care.
5. All the Literal Stuff
I have other nit-picky things I want to do this year too, like post to my blog twice a week, move out of my parents house…again, go to more concerts and live music events, crochet/craft more and maybe open an Etsy shop… little things of that nature.
Step Three: Follow Through and Update You Guys 🙂
So, those are my resolutions.
Overall I just want to take better care of myself, in every aspect of my life.
What are some of your resolutions?!
